Follow the tangerine road...

I've been playing with the backdrop in my studio again...uh oh. This is my tangerine road, and like the yellow brick road I hope it will take me to magical places, not necessarily home, if I click my thrifted D&G heels together three times! If I say "there's no place like Paris, there's no place like Paris, there's no place like Paris" and little sparklies start drifting down from the ceiling and the floor gets tilted like in those Batman shows, I'll know I'm onto something (or perhaps that I'm ON something!).

I bought this neon pink satin blouse last week at a local thrift shop. Spookily it happens to be by Jacqueline Conoir, a local designer I had never heard of until a few days ago when I style-eyed a woman who is devoted to the label. The seafoam skirt is one I sometimes wear as a petticoat.

Details of the ensemble:
  • thrifted seafoam skirt, Value Village
  • thrifted D&G shoes, Value Village
  • thrifted fitted Jacqueline Conoir satin top with snap front closure, Wildlife Thrift Shop
  • ultramarine textured tights
  • thrifted rhinestone necklace, Wildlife Thrift Shop

This outfit looks great with my patterned coat, all that slap-me-in-the-face pink jumping out alarmingly at the front, but I forgot to lug my coat into the studio with me.

I was SO DISAPPOINTED about the blurriness of the photo - the effect takes years off my face and I would never ever want anyone to think I am younger than I am! Goodness, no! Actually, I was twirling in many of the photos so most of them came out making me look younger (and often like a dunderhead). And I adjusted the lights so that's why my eyes are glazed. Honestly!

This is my piece for the fabulous Patti and her Visible Monday party. See you there?!

    1. You are so right about the courage and heart; I would need a brain too, but I guess that's the part that chooses Paris as a destination!

  2. I love the pink satin on you! I just bought a pink satin blouse recently myself - great minds!

    Such a shame about the blurriness - you don't look a day over 30, I swear! ;)

  10. You have the coolest backgrounds.

  11. What fun to have a background for your photos! My daughter's picked up Jacqueline Conoir pieces at trunk sales over the years -- I'll have to check and see if she still wears the label. Saw some of the line just the other day on a Vancouver blog I've found, Culture Serf.

  12. Oh, I've been searching for a pink top in this color! I love the background and think you may need to start painting backgrounds for the entire GANG of us!

  13. I must agree that as I approach 50 I certainly don't mind a nice slightly fuzzy low light photo :P

I want that skirt, really, really love the color, the fullness, the happiness of it.

One of these days I'm going to figure out how to work one of my antique rhinestone collars into the law office uniform :)

  14. The neon pink jacket with rhinestone necklace leaped off the screen, and then I discovered the D&G shoes. Took me some time to inhale and adore each detail of this outfit! And your beautiful new background.

  15. Ok now this pink top is the best for you! You should wear more of those bright shinny colors
The skirt is totally adorable and those D&G so rad!
Why were the pics blurry anyway? Wrong setting or is there something i did not understand?

    Take care lovely Mélanie

    1. Yes, my shutter speed is slow and my lighting is not great, so if I move when the timer goes off, I get blurring! Usually I can stand still... I'm trying to buy more bright colours inspired by people like you!

  16. I LOVE your backdrop! How would one go about making one of those? Really big papaer? if so, where do you get it? Thanks,

    1. Yes, you're my 50, thanks!!

You just need a big roll of paper; most art supply stores sell them. This particular paper is less expensive, fairly lightweight, which is why it crinkles with paint, but it's enough for me to have fun!

And I agree with Vanessa that seafoam is the best name ever for a colour! And the skirt isn't half bad either...

  30. Love this outfit. I just noticed we've both posed recently holding our skirts out on the sides....and then the shoe thing....
Please don't let my next post be one of those horrid Nick Nolte mug shots for plagarism. HAHA
I'll just flatter myself with the "great minds" idea. :)
